
Increased funding for overburdened support resources such as the UVa Women’s Center. The demand for student support resources has far exceeded the institutional capacity of UVa units such as the UVa Women’s Center. Like so many organizations at the University, the Women's Center increasingly depends on private funding; two crucial counseling positions are now funded by Federal stimulus money. As we aim to further educate the student body and our surrounding community on issues relating to violence against women, we anticipate an increase in demand for these kinds of resources.
Mandatory Bystander Education. Many of us are able to identify “red flags” in relationships. However, how can we, as supportive friends, peers, and colleagues, successfully intervene in a potentially abusive or dangerous situation? We must be equipped with the tools to respond in such instances.
